What are the books you remember being read to you as a child? I personally can’t remember many that didn’t involve (non-human) animals. Thinking back on it now, I am sure that the influence of books portraying animal characters with emotions was responsible for building a strong foundation of compassion towards others that I continue to carry with me. (Thank you Mom!)
I recently came across a wonderful podcast by ARZone where author and illustrator, Ruby Roth, talks about two of her children’s books
Ruby’s interview touches on her personal journey into veganism, the controversy her books created and the capability of young children to comprehend issues about justice and compassion.
Let us know if these books are in your home and what you think about them. Feel free to also share your favorite childhood books and how they may have influenced you.
